Cattle breeds assignment test using STR loci: a comparison between two different approaches

چکیده
A commercial problem of increasing concern is the traceability of the breed origin of individual beef cuts. Current methods, based on paper certifications, are vulnerable to fraud. We report the use of DNA profiles from STR loci for inferring the breed source of given specimens, using both our published Breed Genomic Formula (BGF) method (Ciampolini et al., 2000) and an alternative approach based on likelihood ratio statistics.

Genetic diversity and assignment tests among seven French cattle breeds based on microsatellite DNA analysis.
Genetic variability and relationships among six native French cattle breeds (Abondance, Tarentaise, Villard de Lans, Montbéliarde, Limousin, and Charolais) and one foreign breed (Holstein) were investigated using 23 microsatellite markers. These breeds were also compared with four Swiss breeds genotyped in a previously published study. Interestingly, the French alpine breeds have smaller popula...

This study was performed to investigate two polymorphic sites from Cyp19 gene (PvuII and MspI) and one polymorphic site from ERα gene (SnaBI) in four cattle breeds including Mazandarani, Taleshi, Sistani and Simmental. In overall 278 samples for CYP19 and 206 samples for ERα marker sites were genotyped using polymerase chain reactionsingle-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) procedure. ...
متن کاملGenetic diversity and relationship of cattle populations of East India: distinguishing lesser known cattle populations and established breeds based on STR markers
India has 34 recognized breeds of cattle in addition to many more not characterized and accredited so far. It is imperative to characterize all the cattle germplasm of the country so as to have better breeding and conservation options. Thus, present study was planned for assessing genetic diversity and relationship between three local cattle populations (Gangatiri, Shahabadi and Purnea) and two...

The aim of this study is to use Y-chromosome gene polymorphism method to investigate regional differences in genetic variation and population evolution history of the Chinese native cattle breeds. Six Y-chromosome short tandem repeat (Y-STR) loci (UMN0929, UMN0108, UMN0920, INRA124, UMN2404, and UMN0103) were analyzed using 1016 healthy and heterogenetic males and 90 females of 9 native cattle ...
متن کاملGenetic relationships between feral cattle from Chirikof Island, Alaska and other breeds.
The origin of cattle on Chirikof Island, off the coast of Alaska, is not well documented. We assessed genetic differentiation of cattle isolated on Chirikof Island from several breeds commonly used for commercial production in North America including breeds popularly believed to have contributed to the Chirikof Island population. A set of 34 microsatellite loci was used to genotype Angus, Charo...
